NEW FLYER OF AMERICA TO CUT THE RIBBON ON ITS $25 MILLION EXPANSION ON NOVEMBER 30
St. Cloud, Minnesota, USA – November 26, 2018: (TSX: NFI) New Flyer of America Inc. (“New Flyer”), a U.S. subsidiary of NFI Group Inc. (“NFI”), invites you to join us for a ribbon cutting event to celebrate the official opening of our newly-expanded, advanced manufacturing facility at 106 National Drive in Anniston,
Alabama on November 30, 2018. Formal remarks commence at 9:30 a.m. followed by a ribbon cutting, brief tour, and light reception in our Vehicle Innovation Center. Representation will include New Flyer executives, the delegations of Senator Jones and Congressman Rogers, Anniston Mayor Draper, and the Calhoun County Economic Development Council.
New Flyer’s USD $25 million investment, first announced last fall, expands the facility to nearly 400,000- square feet, insources transit bus part fabrication, centralizes the welding process, expands space for a central administration team, and adds the first and only dine-in cafeteria amongst all manufacturers in Calhoun County. Continuous improvements have also been made throughout the existing plant to improve quality and supply management, and to increase American-sourced components for New Flyer of America transit buses.
Combined with $20 million invested in 2015 and $5 million spent on electric bus production upgrades and programming over the past year, the expansion marks a total $50 million invested in Anniston.
The Anniston facility now supports battery-electric bus production, having become the first of New Flyer’s manufacturing facilities to reach full readiness for zero-emission transit bus production. This follows last year’s grand opening of New Flyer’s Vehicle Innovation Center (VIC) in Anniston, making it America’s first and only innovation lab dedicated to advancing bus and coach technology in the electric and autonomous
space. Since opening, the VIC has welcomed over 1,000 industry leaders, including transit agencies from across North America, regulators, media, suppliers, utility companies, investors, and other organizations.
Experience innovation in motion: New Flyer’s zero-emission, battery-electric Xcelsior CHARGETM demonstration bus (built in Anniston, Alabama) will be onsite and available for photos. The ribbon cutting will be followed by a facility tour and a brief reception in the Vehicle Innovation Center. Media are welcome on the tour and interviews may be granted dependent on time.
