The First Ever US Canine Biathlon REWIND Brings Spooky Fun to Anniston, Alabama
Something Wickedly Fun This Way Comes!
The first ever US Canine Biathlon REWIND is giving dog lovers in Anniston, Alabama a fun, challenging way to celebrate Halloween Weekend. The REWIND is an obstacle course 5K race designed for dog owners to conquer with their furry friend at their side. Obstacles include steep hills, tire crawls, mud pits, and 80 other tests of canine and human agility.
The REWIND welcomes campers on Friday, November 1. The race will be held on November 2 from 8:30 AM to 10:00 PM at VWK9 Academy, 265 Rucker St., Anniston, Alabama. Over 400 runners are expected to compete.
“The U.S. Canine Biathlon provides the ultimate bonding experience between you and your dog,” says Race Director and Founder Paul Hammond.
In addition to being a fun challenge for runners, the REWIND will also be the Halloween party of the year. The event space is decked out in Halloween decorations and the after-race party will be a Monster Mash disco with throwback dance hits from the 60s-90s. Runners will also be able to compete in costume contest, with prizes including a 5-star crash tested kennel from Gunner Kennels and a GPS tracking collar from Fi.
“With our youngest competitor to date being 4-year-old Pricilla, and eldest competitor 76 years old, there are no excuses on why you should not join 400 other canines and owners on this challenging course,” Hammond says.
The US Canine Biathlon is a bi-annual event, with the main competitive event held in May, and the newly added REWIND in the fall. The most recent US Canine Biathlon event was held May 17-19. The REWIND uses the same course as the main event, but with a twist: the course layout is reversed, with the May event’s starting line serving as the REWIND’s finish line. This creates a new challenge for runners who competed in May, but the course is accessible to first-time runners as well.
The US Canine Biathlon REWIND is an all-ages event and all dog breeds are allowed to compete. Online registration for the event is $85 and is open now through race day. Walk-up registrations are accepted on race day. Spectators are invited to attend for free. Canine equipment vendors and food trucks will have merchandise and food for sale.
