Ribbon Cutting & Open House for EMCS
Please join us in a ribbon cutting celebration for Evelyn Moon Children Services!
The Evelyn Moon Crisis Shelter, now DBA as Evelyn Moon Children Services (EMCS), is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit established in July 2020. EMCS's original goal was to provide crisis placement for girls separated from their biological parents by the Department of Human Resources for abuse or neglect. EMCS will continue to work toward providing these needed services while choosing to mobilize some of the components of the plan.
Per the Kids Count database, in 2018, there were 12,158 children abused or neglected in the state of Alabama. On the last day of 2018, there were 5,930 children in the foster care system. In 2019, a total of 76,000 children were in the care of their grandparents for an array of reasons to include death, addictions, legal issues, mental health concerns, poverty, abuse, neglect, and other inabilities to parent.
Therefore, EMCS's Full Moon Mentoring Program is purposed to serve as a school-based prevention program including supportive and preventative services structured to empower children (male and female) and their caregivers to reduce abuse or neglect.
The Full Moon Mentoring Program will serve both the child and caregiver. Our goals for the entire family will include advocacy, coping skills, healthy relationship management, parent education, support groups, prevention awareness, and case management.
