CITY OF ANNISTON PRESS RELEASE - MAY 8, 2020 - 2:45 PM

UPDATES AS OF SUNDAY, MAY 10th:

  • All City of Anniston public parks will be made accessible, effective Monday (05/11/20) at 8:00am. Groups that visit city parks must maintain an appropriate 6 foot distance from one another at all times.
  • However, all playground equipment on city parks and other outdoor recreational structures such as basketball courts, will remain temporarily off limits to public, per the guidance of the State of Alabama's Health Officer.
  • The Anniston Aquatic & Fitness Center will open to the public at 5:30am Monday (05/11/20). The hours of operation for this facility will be as follows: Open Monday through Friday from 5:30am until 7:00pm, Open Saturday from 7:00am until 4:00pm, and Closed Sunday.
  • This Anniston Aquatic & Fitness Center's pool will also open to the public at 5:30am next Monday (05/11/20); however, its hours of operation will be as such:
    • Until further only structured activities will be permitted within these facilities, that is to say no "free play" will take place. Furthermore, said structured activities will adhere to the social distancing and sanitation guidelines as set forth by the Alabama State Health Officer. In addition, only "Lap Swimming" will be permitted in this facility's  pool, and those who wish to swim must come dressed.
    • Closed Sunday.
    • Open Saturday from 7:00am until 12:00pm
    • Open Monday through Friday from 5:30am until 10:30am & 2:30pm until 6:30pm

Anniston city leadership urges all of its citizens to continue social distancing practices and to adhere to the health and safety guidelines set forth by the Center for Disease Control, the Alabama Department of Public Health, and the State of Alabama's Health Orders, which were amended on 05/08/20 and shall remain in effect until 05/22/20 (Link: https://bit.ly/2SMML7U). Furthermore, be it known that in an effort to adhere our community to the safest practices recommended by both the CDC and the Alabama Dept. of Public Health, the City of Anniston will execute the
following precautionary measures for the health and safety of our residents:

The following City of Anniston facilities will open to the public at 8:00am next Monday (05/11/20): Carver Community Center, Norwood Hodges Community Center, South Highland Community Center, and Wiggins Community Center. The hours of operation for said facilities will be as follows: Open Monday through Friday from 10:00am until 6:00pm, Closed Saturday, and Closed Sunday. Until further only structured activities will be permitted within these facilities, that is to say no "free play" will take place. Furthermore, any structured activities will adhere to the social distancing and sanitation guidelines as set forth by the Alabama State Health Officer.

This facility's pool will also open to the public at 5:30am next Monday (05/11/20); however, its hours of operation will be as such: Open Monday through Friday from 5:30am until 5:00pm, Open Saturday from 7:00am until 3:30pm, and Closed Sunday. Until further only structured activities will be permitted within these facilities, that is to say no "free play" will take place. Furthermore, said structured activities will adhere to the social distancing and sanitation guidelines as set forth by the Alabama State Health Officer. In addition, only "Lap Swimming" will be permitted in this facility's pool, and those who wish to swim must come dressed.

The Anniston Multimodal Station (Amtrak Station, Greyhound Station, Trolley Station), located at 126 West 4th Street, Anniston, AL 36201, will have its hours of operation altered to the following: Open Monday through Friday from 8:00am until 7:00pm, Open Saturday from 8:30am until 4:00pm, and Closed Sunday. Please note, an emergency phone line has been made available at this facility: 256-310-7723.

All City of Anniston public parks will be made accessible, effective next Monday (05/11/20) at 8:00am. In addition, all playground equipment on city parks, and other outdoor recreational structures such as basketball courts, will also open to the public next Monday (05/11/20). Groups that visit city parks or utilize the city’s outdoor recreational facilities must maintain an appropriate 6 foot distance from one another at all times.

Please note, effective next Monday (05/11/20) there will be no restrictions on the number of individuals that can be in a group at the walking trails at the Anniston Museum and Gardens, the Cane Creek Golf Course, the Hill Golf Course, and all city parks and outdoor recreational facilities. However, groups that visit these walking trails and outdoor areas must be able to maintain an appropriate 6 foot distance from one another at all times.

Cane Creek Grill will conduct dine-in services, starting next Monday (05/11/20) at 8:00am. This restaurant shall maintain a 50% occupancy limit, and proper social distancing guidelines shall be enforced in regard to seating arrangements.

The Anniston Museum and Gardens will remain temporarily closed to the public until Tuesday, May 26th, at which time we shall be forthcoming with details on our plans to reopen its facilities.

The Anniston City Meeting Center shall remain temporarily closed to the public until further notice. However, know that details on renting this facility, and/or other city facilities that can be rented, shall be given to the public at the beginning of June 2020.
